Blog Challenge 3: Cheyeanne Perez

The  career I chose to peruse is to be a cardiothoracic surgeon. I want to be the person who makes a difference to some one who needs help. I have always had an interest in science and the way the heart works. I find it interesting how doctors can make such an impact in a persons life when they decided to take on the challenge of heart surgeon.

Colleges that offer some type of medical school, or medical program:

Acceptance Requirements:
Albany Medical College would be attended after completing a minimum three years college work completed in an accredited college or university. As well as successful completion of General biology or zoology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. Then submission of results from the students Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), along with recommendation letters. The student must meet OSHA immunization requirements, and meet the Minimum Technical Standards for Matriculation.

Instead of describing the course in a paragraph there's diagram that better explains the steps in the four year PhD/ Medical School program after completion of Undergraduate study.

Stanford’s program that I would apply for would be the biosciences major, it encompasses 14 different sciences that are all collaborate with threw ought the study. My home program would be biochemistry, there is a smaller ration of teachers to students and the subject is most interesting.

Acceptance Requirements:

Applicants must hold, or expect to hold before enrollment at Stanford, a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores. Three letters of recommendation are required. Two official transcripts from every post-secondary institution you have attended for one full academic year should be submitted directly to the Biosciences Admissions Office.

The course list for the biochemistry major-

Genomics and Medicine, Undergraduate Research, Applied Biochemistry,
Biochemistry Bootcamp, Molecular Foundations of Medicine, The Human Genome and Disease, The Human Genome and Disease: Genetic Diversity and Personalized Medicine, Advanced Topics in Membrane Trafficking, Frontiers in Biological Research, Computational Molecular Biology, Chemistry of Biological Processes, The Teaching of Biochemistry, Advanced Cell Biology, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Biochemistry, Biology by the Numbers: Evolution, Biological Macromolecules, Currents in Biochemistry Genomics, Bioinformatics and Medicine, Development of Thesis Research, Developing an Original Research Proposal, Medical Scholars Research, Graduate Research and Special Advanced Work, Frontiers in Interdisciplinary Biosciences.

PhD program I would consider:

TETRAD, diverse training in biochemistry and molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, and genetics

The University of California San Francisco requirements for
acceptance:

Strongly recommend that premedical students pursue a four-year undergraduate curriculum and obtain a baccalaureate degree before entering medical school, but only completion of three years of acceptable transfer college credit from an accredited institution, including General Chemistry, one year with laboratory, Organic Chemistry, minimum of two quarters, Physics, one year with laboratory, and General Biology.

Course Schedule:
Boot Camp, Cell Biology, Macromolecules, Biological Regulatory Mechanisms, Principle in Molecular Genetics, Minicourses are all courses that are taken while going to school. There are other classes that are taken along with those but they are the completely required ones. After The classes are completed research and a dissertation is needed for the PhD program.
